Design and Technology at Hadleigh Community Primary School aims to nurture, inspire and develop children’s skills, knowledge and understanding of all the areas within its umbrella. As a subject, we aim to focus on the processes of designing and making products to solve problems, combining independence and creativity with practical skills, while following a design brief.

D and T combines a number of STEM disciplines, as well as art and electronics, in order to fulfil our brief of creating:

– a Product,

– for a Person,

– for a Purpose.

Across our curriculum, children carry out various tasks, from designing a fire truck to help stop the Great Fire of London, or creating World War Two biscuits (from rations!).

Pupils are encouraged to take risks and develop their resourcefulness within a certain set of parameters, improving initiative, prompting enterprising, capable students who are able to consider their own, and others needs, wants and values.

We aim to develop critical thinking, problem solving and resourcefulness in modern Britain, looking to inspire the next generation of fashion designers, master chefs, architects and engineers.
