The aim of History teaching at Hadleigh Community Primary School is to stimulate the children’s interest and understanding of people, places and events in the past. Children gain a sense of chronology through learning about the past and learn to value other people’s cultures.

Children are taught to know and understand history as a coherent, chronological narrative, from the earliest times to the present day: how people’s lives have shaped this nation and how Britain has influenced and been influenced by the wider world.

The wider world is also taught through the nature of ancient civilisations; the expansion and dissolution of empires; characteristic features of past non-European societies.

Through studying History, children develop skills of enquiry, analysis, interpretation, problem solving and engage in active discussion – skills that prepare them for adult life.

History is taught through themes and is brought to life through a range of practical experiences, visitors and visits. Themes that are taught include:
