At Hadleigh Community Primary School, we have adapted the White Rose Education Science Scheme of Learning, to enable us to provide a high-quality science education that provides children with the foundation they need to recognise the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life. In line with our values, our Science curriculum allows all children to operate as successful scientists through being taught a wide range of enquiry skills, concepts and key knowledge. Pupils are encouraged to develop a sense of curiosity of the natural world and challenge their understanding of scientific ideas; this involves harnessing a desire to ask questions, make predictions and observations.

We aim to teach the children substantive and disciplinary knowledge through specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Our curriculum enables children to become enquiry-based learners, collaborating through researching, investigating and evaluating experiences.

In addition, learning is further enriched through the use of our school’s onsite woodland and pond, as well as through local trips and visitors. Furthermore, pupils are encouraged to research a diverse range of significant scientists and make links to careers.

British Science Week 2025:

Each year, there is a new theme for British Science Week, and for 2025, it was ‘Change and Adapt’.

To celebrate British Science Week, we completed activities across the school which promoted cross-curricular learning and incorporated science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
