The aim of Geography teaching is to inspire pupils to have a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

At Hadleigh Community Primary School we strive to equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. This is delivered through an exciting and purposeful way, with cross-curricular links being highlighted to make learning interesting and meaningful.

Children will become competent in the geographical skills, including collecting, analysing and communicating with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork. They will be taught to interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes and aerial photographs.

The Geographical skills are taught through a variety of themes, visits and practical experiences. Themes that are taught include:

  • Pre Stone-Age (Settlements)
  • Comparisons between Arctic, Temperate and Polar Climates
  • Roman settlements

Year 4

  • Settlements in Modern Britain / Settlements in Saxon Britain.
  • Maps, compasses, grid references.

Year 5
